| Each year, Art of Jazz selects a Canadian and International jazz artist to receive the AOJ Lifetime Achievement Award. Our goal is reward great accomplishments that span the recipients career and ensure that these masters of jazz are recognized and take their deserved place in history beside leaders in the arts. Each of our recipients have demonstrated talent that has in a fundamental way advanced the art of jazz. Their accomplishments as performers, composers and educators are acknowledged by their professional peers, critics and the general public. Their body of work stands the test of time and their continued dedication will undoubtedly add to their significant contributions.
Our inaugural 2006 recipients were Dr. Barry Harris and Don Thompson. Please use the links to read more about the accomplishments of these great jazz artists. This year, we proudly pay tribute to Canadian trumpeter and composer Kenny Wheeler, along with the “Father of Vocalese”, Jon Hendricks. We hope you will join us May 30 through June 3, 2007 as both past and present AOJ Lifetime Achievement Recipients take to the stage at the Art of Jazz Celebration. |
